Three dragged away, one escapes in Ussangoda beach

Body of mother washed ashore:

A mother and two boys including one of her sons have gone missing after they were drifted away by waves at the Kochchama beach in Ussangoda, Ambalantota last afternoon.

The body of the 55 year old mother was found washed ashore later. Police said four persons including these three had been dragged in the waves. However, an 18-year-old boy had managed to swim back to the shore.

The missing persons are a 55-year-old mother, her 16-year-old son and her sister’s 22-year-old son.

They are residents of Deniyaya and had gone to the beach after participating in Poya day religious observances in a temple in Lunama, near the Kochchama beach. They had gone to the Lunama area to visit their relatives where the 22-year-old boy also lived. Sri Lanka Navy had deployed its divers to recover the bodies of the missing persons. Police are conducting investigations into the incident. Police Media Spokesman, SSP Nihal Thalduwa said the public should be aware and adhere to the warnings issued by the authorities about the dangerous places beside the reservoirs and the sea.
