Tank Owners cry foul over suspension of CPC cheque payments facility

Tank Owners’ Association Secretary Shantha Perera said the decision taken by the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) to suspend the cheque payment facility provided to petrol stations for payment could lead to a fuel distribution crisis in the future.

The CPC now has told petrol shed owners to pay cash for the fuel delivered instead of cheques.

He was speaking at a media briefing held in Colombo yesterday (14).

He said that his union was of the view that this was a fraudulent scheme implemented by the officials with the intention of embarrassing the government and stressed that the chairman of the institution should be careful in this regard. Commenting on the manner in which fuel was being transported these days, he said that less than 200 fuel orders were delivered countrywide on the previous day (13).

He also said that there was not much distribution of fuel yesterday (14) and stressed that the website of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) states what stations are due to be delivered of fuel today (15).
