Only 3,000 private buses out of 18,000 operated yesterday due to the existing fuel shortage in the country, Sri Lanka Private Bus Owner’s Association Chairman Gemunu Wijeratne said.
Wijeratne said that only 20 percent of private bus fleet was in operation in the country.
“If adequate fuel stocks are not provided, only 2,000 buses would ply on the road today, he said.
He said around 10,000 private buses are lined up in long queues to refuel and an immediate solution should be provided by the government to this issue.
Otherwise, a conflict could arise between SLTB and private buses as fuel has not been provided to private buses from SLTB depots as pledged earlier.
