Sri Lanka to help China develop cricket

China as an emerging country in cricket. Hence, we would like to extend our fullest cooperation in providing and facilitating our international play grounds, expert assistance and coaching at any time said Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe. The minister said this at the awards ceremony of the Dragon Boat Festival to commemorating the death of Qu Yuan ( ), who was a Chinese poet and minister known for his patriotism and contributions to classical poetry and eventually became a national hero.

The Minister further said China has been Sri Lanka’s lifelong friend throughout history and That is the reason our countries have always been able to achieve favourable results

As you know our country is facing a crisis at this moment therefore I believe our approach should be different from the past. We should seek new avenues to develop our youth and sport sectors including others.

My country has signed two MoU ‘s with your Country in 2013 and 2014 to enhance the cooperation of youth but unfortunately we were unable to carry out programs as expected for the benefits of both countries. We seek Ambassador’s assistance and intervention to make these MoU ‘s active and beneficial for our countries.

As the Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, our associations and Federation warmly invite China as an emerging country in Cricket. Hence, we would like to extend our fullest corporation in providing and facilitating our international play grounds, expatriate assistance and coaching at any time you request. In conclusion, Sri Lanka’s relationship with China have evolved through Buddhism, trade and aid to more strategic ties based on infrastructure development and global connectivity.

As the Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, our associations and Federation warmly invite Mr Qi Zhenhong Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Sri Lanka .

Finally, I take this opportunity to congratulate the professional teams and amateur teams who displayed their talents at Diyawanna Rowing Centre while I would like to congratulate and thank you for organising this dragon Boat race in which we were fortunate to have a boat as a gift on this special day of Dragon Boat festival,

The President of Amateur Rowing Association of Sri Lanka and the other officials of the Association, distinguish guest and the players and officials of the China Embassy graced the occasion.
