Colombo bourse dips further

Colombo bourse falls to a three weeks low with the lackluster sentiments in the market. Thus, The All-Share Price Index decreased by 172.5points (-2.2%) to close at 7,631.1 whilst S&P SL20 Index also declined by 84.6 points (-3.3%) to close at 2,454.5.LOLC Holdings, Expolanka Holdings, Ceylon Tobacco, Melstacorp and Sampath Bank and remained as the top negative contributors to the ASPI during the day. Further, broader market’s total turnover stood at Rs. 1,461.1 million against the 12-month average daily turnover of Rs. 4,650.4 million, whilst the volume traded for the day was 73,155.6k against the 12-month average daily volume of 224,884.9k. Capital Goods, Banks and Transportation mostly contributed to yesterday’s turnover.

The top turnover generators for yesterday were Expolanka Holdings Rs. 539.8 mn (-6.1%), Browns Investments Rs. 211.3 mn (-3.5%), Lanka IOC Rs. 206.1 mn (+4.2%),CT Holdings Rs. 156.5 mn (-2.3%) and Melstacorp Rs. 110.3 mn (-4.9%).

Foreigners recorded a net inflow of Rs. 49.5 mn yesterday. Foreign purchases stood at Rs. 57.8 mn whilst total foreign sales amounted to Rs. 8.3 mn. Top foreign buying counters JKH LKR. 46.4 mn, DIAL LKR. 9.7 mn, HNB LKR. 8.7 mn, LLUB LKR. 6.6 mn, EXPO LKR. 4.7 mn, ASCO LKR. 2.9 mn whilsttop foreign selling counters were CTHR LKR.(156.3)mn, MELS LKR. (19.2 )mn, HELA LKR.(16.0) mn, SAMP LKR.(3.6)mn, LWL LKR.(1.5)mn and BALA LKR.(0.9) mn.

Further, off-board transactions were witnessed in Melstacorp (Rs. 80.0 mn) and Waskaduwa Beach Resort (Rs. 27.0 mn) yesterday.
