The All Ceylon Inter-Provincial School Children Transport Association yesterday said that they will be compelled to increase the school van fees by 40 percent due to the increase in fuel prices.
A Spokesman from the Association said that they are unable to continue with the service due to the fuel price increase.
He added that high fuel prices and a shortage of fuel have caused greater problems for the transport of school children.
School transport services will be uncertain in the coming weeks as the fuel crisis deepens in the country,” he added.
Meanwhile, Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association President Gemunu Wijeratne yesterday said that only one-third of private buses functioned yesterday due to diesel shortage. He further said that private buses will also be restricted today.
“We will continue to operate private buses as much as possible despite the lack of fuel as the new school term began from yesterday. Although the SLTB depot supplies fuel for private buses, that is insufficient as bus operators are compelled to wait in queues for days to get diesel,” he added.
