Irrigation, Youth and Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe said it would be a timely decision for public sector employees to begin cultivation of food crops to face a possible food crisis in the future.
He also encouraged the public to do the same.He said as the economic experts have predicted such a crisis due to the prevailing situation in the country, everyone should act unitedly and responsibly to overcome or successfully face such situations.
The minister stated this during a meeting with a group of officials at the ministry on Wednesday.
The minister said his ministry should launch a programme to obtain the direct support of the young generation, which includes nearly five million individuals to find solutions for such a crisis.
There are about 1.7 million public sector employees in the country and programmes should be introduced for them to engage in cultivation on their Work-From-Home days, he said.
