Three-wheeler topples, killing two

Five members of a family were injured and two killed when the three-wheeler they were travelling in toppled, in Thanamalwila, police said.

The deceased have been identified as G.N. Mayura Eranda Dilshan de Silva, a six-year-old student of Wellawaya Yalabowa Primary School, and G.N. Ariyapala (45), a resident of Wellawaya Yalabowa Samagi Uyana.

While the group was returning from a relative’s house in Colombo, the driver had fallen asleep, causing the accident.

Ariyapala was taken to the Thanamalwila Hospital and later to the Hambantota Hospital, where he died.

The father of the child and three others are receiving treatment at the Hambantota Hospital, while the others in the group have been discharged from hospital, Thanamalwila Police said.
