A man was shot dead in the Panchali area in Ahangama Saturday night (04), Ahangama Police said.
The Police said the victim was arrested earlier for drug dealing and was out on bail when the incident happened.
The victim had come in a car with another person to meet a friend in the Ahangama area.
At that moment, an unidentified person on a black Scooty type motorbike had stopped the car.
Police say the victim was sitting in the front seat of the car and the person on the bike had asked the victim what his name was, shot him with a pistol and fled.
He was later admitted to the Walana Hospital in Weligama in the same vehicle and was pronounced dead on admision, Police said.
The deceased has been identified as Asun Chamara (26), a resident of Walasgala, Dematapitiya, Dambagasar. The car was driven by a friend of the deceased.
He is also a resident of the Dematapitiya Walasgala area. The victim was arrested by the Navy and the Narcotics Police on March 21, 2021 on the Polagathumodara beach in Weligama on suspicion of smuggling heroin in his multi-day vessel.
He was out on bail at the time of the incident.
