India donates medicines, equipment for Suwa Seriya Ambulance Service

The Indian High Commission yesterday donated stock of medicines and medical equipment for the Suwa Seriya Ambulance Service (1990) on a request made by Colombo District MP Dr. Harsha de Silva, Founder of 1990 Suwa Seriya Ambulance Service in the light of a grave shortage of medicine and medical equipment for the Ambulance service under the present economic situation in the country.

The donation was made by Indian High Commissioner Gopal Baglay. MP Dr. Harsha de Silva, Chairman of the Suwa Seriya Foundation, Dumindra Ratnayake, Chief Executive Officer of the Suwasariya and Sohan de Silva also participated in the event.

Founder of the 1990 Suwa Seriya MP Dr. Harsha de Silva said it has become very difficult to maintain the Ambulance service due to the current economic crisis prevailing in the country. However, we cannot stop this people’s service that we started with much difficulties.

“I am so grateful to the Indian Government for quickly responding to my request and making donations to the Suwasariya. In addition, I recently requested the Secretary to the Treasury at the COPE Committee to allocate the necessary funds to maintain the “Suwa Seriya,”. I believe the relevant authorities will positively respond to my request,” he added.
