Bhagya the karate and athletic star from Kandy

Nine year old, Bhagya Senanayake, a Grade Five Student of Greenhill International School, Kandy is a fine Junior Karateka as well as an up-and-coming Athlete of the School and she started her Karate career under the coaching of Rohitha Senanayake . She improved her talent with the coaching of Sooriyabawan, a Private Instructor who is a talented Karate coach. In the year 2021 at the National Karate Championship Bhagya became a winner and received a ‘Bronze Medal’ in the Under Eight age Group out of a large group of participants. After some time she improved her talent in Karate and won a ‘Gold Medal’ at the Karate Tournament held at Gampola, organised by the Karate Do Federation of Sri Lanka. She was also a winner of a Bronze Medal at the ‘Online’ Global Karate Tournament organised by the Sri Lanka ‘Online competition’ and again a ‘Silver Medal’ at the same competition in the same year.

Bhagya Senanayake won a ‘Gold Medal’ at the Victory International ‘Kumite’ Tournament in the year 2021 while she was involved in Athletics too in School. She has competed in the Inter House Athletics Championships from Grade Two onwards and she has won the Long Jump, 80 Metre and 50 Metre Races representing ‘Yellow House’ of the School.

She said that she will continue her ability in Karate and Athletics as well as improve her studies as she has a long way to go. Her ambition is to become a ‘ Pilot’ after she qualifies in Studies and Sports and at present she is a ‘Yellow Belt’ in Karate and her intention is to become a ‘Black Belt’ in future.

Bhagya is grateful to her coaches as well as her parents for the guidance given to her to improve her sports abilities and to the class teachers for the improvement of her studies.
