Exam invigilator remanded for abusing student

The Education Ministry is conducting a formal investigation into the alleged abuse of an Ordinary Level student by an examination invigilator.

The O/L examination candidate was sexually harassed by an examination invigilator on May 25 at the Examination Centre established at Hidogama School in Anuradhapura. It was reported that the candidate was harassed under the pretext of assisting in answering a question paper.

The Education Minister has paid special attention to this and instructed the Examinations Commissioner General to conduct a full investigation into the matters and submit a report.

A report was called from the North Central Provincial Director of Education regarding the matter. A statement from the victimized student has already been recorded while statements of both the head and the deputy head of the examination hall have been recorded.

Steps will be taken to record a statement from the accused invigilator and statements of the other candidates who appeared for the examination at that time in the examination hall.

The Hidogama Police have arrested the accused invigilator and remanded him after producing him in court.

This incident will be investigated by the Examination Departmental and disciplinary action will be taken against the accused.
