Chinese Red Cross donates US$ 40,000 worth dry ration packs to Sri Lanka

The Red Cross Society of China has donated 2,100 dry ration packs worth US$ 40,000 to Sri Lanka. Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka-Qi Zhenhong and his wife attended the donation ceremony on Monday, according to the Chinese Embassy to Sri Lanka on Tuesday.

Qi noted at the ceremony held in Homagama town in Colombo District that China is providing urgent assistance through various channels from the Central Government to public organisations to the people of Sri Lanka. China has never attached any political conditions to its assistance to Sri Lanka which is sincere aid among brothers and friends.

Qi also stressed that the Chinese Government has made two announcements flagging further aid for Sri Lanka, with the first round of urgent medication scheduled to arrive within the week.

Meanwhile, the Red Cross Society of China will also provide additional cash assistance to help people of Sri Lanka to overcome current challenges. The Chinese Embassy to Sri Lanka will continue to work with relevant local authorities to offer more help.

Local officials expressed their gratitude for the donation, adding that Sri Lanka is currently facing the most serious economic difficulties, and the donation from the Chinese Government and Chinese people will help the people of Sri Lanka to overcome the obstacles.
