Motorists have been warned not to feed wild elephants along the Buttala-Kataragama Road.

There are about five wild elephants waiting to be fed along the road

Many pilgrims from far-away places wait for long hours when they see these wild elephants on the road. Some people throw food items in polythene bags and these elephants eat them whole, Kataragama Wildlife Range Officers said.

Sometimes these wild elephants become aggressive and some have attacked several vehicles in the past.

Therefore, the Wildlife Officers request the motorists not to feed these animals as it is a punishable offence.
