A technical breakdown was reported in a 270MW power generator at the Norochcholai Coal Power Station yesterday. Posting a Twitter message Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said instructions had been issued to the Ceylon Electricity Board to rectify the issue within five days.
CEB Spokesman Andrew Nawamani told the Daily News that the repairs to the stalled generator would take around three days to be rectified.
He further said that the CEB has also assured that it will manage the current power requirements without extending the duration of power cuts.
In his Twitter message, Minister Wijesekara said, “CEB has informed of a technical breakdown in one of the 270MW power plants in Norochcholai. CEB commenced repair work and assured that they will reconnect within 5 days and manage the power cuts without further extensions to it by using thermal and hydro plants.”
