EP to provide National Grid with 100MW of Solar Power

Two agreements were signed on April 28 to add 100MW of solar power from the Eastern Province to the National Grid under the concept of Renewable Energy Promotion in line with the Prosperity Vision programme.

The agreements were signed at the Governor's Office in Trincomalee under the patronage of Eastern Province Governor Anuradha Yahampath. Officials of Kapital Crop International (Pvt.) Limited and Orb Touch CC (Pvt.) Limited were present.

US $ 120 million will be invested in the Project. The roofs of all the schools except 279 schools under the Provincial Council and the roofs of all government buildings under the Provincial Council are used in this regard.

Twenty percent of the profits from the implementation of the relevant projects will be credited to the Government. It will also repair the roofs of the schools and hospitals that are being used for the project. Free electricity will also be supplied to the schools in the project.

Secretary to the Governor L.P. Madanayake and Provincial Council Chief Legal Officer Dharshana Weerasekera were present.
