Scholarships Programme launched for migrant workers’ children

A scholarship granting programme was set up for the children of migrant workers, Foreign Employment Bureau Chairman Major General Mahinda Sathurusinghe said.

He was participating in a ceremony at the Anuradhapura District Secretariat Auditorium for granting scholarships to 151 schoolchildren from the families of the migrant workers in the Anuradhapura District recently.

Those who received high scores at the Year V Scholarship Exam, O/L and A/L Exams in 2020 were among the beneficiaries.

The Foreign Employment Bureau Chairman said that the number of Sri Lankan migrant workers is higher than the number of government employees in Sri Lanka.

Anuradhapura Additional District Secretary Vijaya Wanasinghe said that a district level regulatory mechanism has been set up to look into the welfare facilities for the families of the migrant workers.

The Additional District Secretary lauded the scholarships recipients.

Foreign Employment Bureau Deputy General Manager Taranga Hettiarachchi, Senior Manager H.M. Sunil, District Manager W.L.C. Manohari and District and Foreign Employment Promotion Officer N.G.Wickramasinghe were present.
