Actions to be taken against individuals harassing tourists

Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga has urged the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to take stern legal actions against parties or individuals involved in harassing and exploiting foreign tourists.

We do not tolerate any form of violence, including physical violence or sexual violence and verbal threats of violence made by any party or individual on foreign tourists and stern actions should be taken against those responsible regardless of their states,” the Minister said.

A series of incidents of exploitation and harassment against tourists have been reported in the recent past. Several videos were also widely circulated on social media showing tourists being harassed. Such incidents can adversely affect the revival of the tourism industry at a time more tourists are coming to Sri Lanka with the receding of the pandemic
