A 40-year-old woman was arrested for possessing 1.64 kgs of heroin in Kalubowila Monday evening.
Police spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said the woman was arrested by the Police Special Task Force (STF) following a special raid conducted on Monday evening.
It was discovered that the woman and her husband were delivering drugs that belonged to another smuggler.
SSP Thalduwa said that her spouse works as a bus driver and that it is suspected that the husband utilized his job as a bus driver to deliver the narcotics.
He said that the police believe the narcotics operation is being organized by certain persons living abroad.
The woman was handed over to the Police Anti-Narcotics Unit and later produced before Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
