The residents in Karathivu, Wanathavilluwa demand physicians and the required staff for the newly constructed hospital in Karathivu. The residents said that the hospital is already constructed, while the construction of doctors' and staff quarters too is completed.
The residents said that the buildings have been constructed at a cost of Rs 30 million yet the buildings are deteriorating due to the delay in opening, because of the lack of staff.
The Karathivu Hospital is visited by a physician once a week to treat the patients in the area. More than 500 families are getting treatment from the hospital and if it is closed they have to travel more than 20 km to get treatment from Wanathawilluwa Hospital. The villagers staged a protest on Tuesday demanding doctors and staff to their hospital.
