National Super League cricket continue at two venues today

Two National Super League cricket fixtures will be worked off today where Jaffna will meet Kandy at SSC grounds while the Dambulla team will battle with Colombo at P. Sara Oval grounds.

The Jaffna team led by Dhananjaya de Silva recorded an easy 176-run win over Dambulla in their first game once again expect to pose a challenge against the Kandy team which was led by promising all-rounder Kamindu Mendis. Kandy team have the services of in-form batter Pathum Nissanka, all-rounder Chaturanga de Silva and experienced Niroshan Dikwella but Chamika Karunaratne and Dushamantha Chameera are out of the Kandy team as they rested this tournament due to heavy schedule before the next Australian T-20 series.

The selectors also advised to rest players such as skipper Dasun Shanaka, Charith Asalanka, Dushamantha Chameera, Chamika Karunaratrne ahead of the Australian T 20 series. The absence of the Colombo team skipper Dasun Shanaka the promising player Sammu Ashan who played as standing skipper of the Colombo at the first game against Galle which was won by Galle with a superb knock of 98 runs by Priyamal Perera will be felt in this tournament. Former skipper Angelo Mathews also not played for Galle’s first game as Dinesh Chandimal led the Galle side.

Meanwhile, several key players who are currently playing this tournament will miss the next National Super League matches as they have to prepare for the National training under Bio Bubble to focus on Australia T -2O series. The nine players who were in the National squad against the Zimbabwe series were already released from the National Super League tournament. The Australian T20 series will commence from February 11 and the Sri Lankan team is scheduled to leave in the first week of February. However, National Super League will conclude on February 19 and it’s clearly understood National cricketers couldn’t continue this major domestic tournament.
