Fifty nine estate hospitals under CPC purview

Cabinet approval has been granted to bring 59 estate hospitals upcountry under the Central Province Health Ministry purview.

Estate Infrastructure Facilities and Community Development State Minister Jeevan Thondaman said that based on a request made from the

Health Minister, hospitals under estate companies are due to be acquired by the government in order to raise the standard of health facilities for estate workers.

The State Minister revealed this during a media briefing held yesterday (25) at the Kotagala, Ceylon Workers’ Congress headquarters.

He also said that blessings of the President and the Prime Minister had been received for this endeavour.

He said that, 250 estate hospitals will be taken by the government to provide maximum health services possible to estate worker communities. He said further that a discussion was held with Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella recently, regarding increasing health facilities in those hospitals. Speaking further State Minister Thondaman said that subsequent to that discussion under the first phase, 59 hospitals will be run by the government and approval has been granted for doing so.

He said that up to now, estate workers did not receive proper health services from estate hospitals and that it will be possible to provide maximum health care through them in the upcoming future.
