While keeping the traditional export markets to US Europe and UK, local garment manufacturers should look at new markets as well, said Minister of Industries Wimal Weerawansa. He was addressing the Sri Lanka Chamber of Garment Exporters (SLCGE) 26th Annual General Meeting in Colombo last week.

“As a government, the only sustainable solution to the foreign exchange crisis is to provide maximum support to industries that can conquer foreign markets. The garment industry is one such industry that should be egged on. The Sri Lanka Apparel Exporters’ Association, affiliated with the Apparel Industry, was established in 1992 and has been instrumental in promoting the ‘Made in Sri Lanka’ brand worldwide. It is an honour to see ‘Made in Sri Lanka’ written on the most valuable branded clothing in any apparel market all over the world.”

Meanwhile, Rainbow Clothing Managing Director was elected President of the Sri Lanka Chamber of Garment Exporters (SLCGE) at the 26th Annual General Meeting held on Thursday, January 20 at the Union Ballroom, Hilton Colombo Residencies in Colombo 02.

Industries Minister Wimal Weerawansa was the chief guest at the AGM while Brandix Lanka Limited Group Chief Executive Officer Ashroff Omar graced the occasion as the guest of honour.

The SCLCGE also caters to international prestigious brand names in UK, USA, EU, Australia, Japan, Russian Federation, India, etc.
