Raids to nab errant cement traders

The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) is conducting countrywide raids to nab traders selling cement above the stipulated price.

Raids have been conducted on several hardware stores in the Gampaha, Kandy, Ratnapura, Badulla, Moneragala, Anuradhapura and Hambantota Districts where cement bags were being sold to consumers above the marked price during the past few days.

Hoarding cement stocks is an offence under the Consumer Affairs Authority Act.

“Traders who hoard cement stocks can be barred from selling cement by the Authority.

Such stocks can be confiscated after being produced in Courts,” an Authority official said.
