Sri Lanka confront Afghanistan in quarter final on Jan. 27

Sri Lanka, who topped Group D, registering three wins in three games, will face Afghanistan in Super League Quarter Final on January 27 at Coolidge Cricket Grounds, Antigua The last games of the ICC Under-19 World Cup group stage were completed on Saturday (22) confirming the quarterfinal line up.

Interestingly, Asian contingent will dominate the knockout stage of this year’s U19 World Cup as all the top cricketing nations (Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh & Afghanistan) in Asian region have qualified for Quarter Finals.

Sri Lanka led by Dunith Wellalage was able to enter first eight teams with an unbeaten record while this is the first time since 2016 Sri Lanka reached the quater finals .Skipper Dunith Wellalage was leading from the front with superb all round performance while he picked up highest number of 13 wickets with back to back five wickets hauls in first two matches .

Sri Lanka defeated Scotland in their first game in which Sakuna Liyanage made a fighting knock of 85 runs to pave way for victory and Wellalage took five wickets haul . In the second game against three time World champions Australia once again Wellalage who got five wicket haul and scoring 52 to guide superb victory.The third game Sadisha Rajapaksa who open the Innings hit a fine knock of 75 paved the way to beat West Indies by three wickets while Wellalage once again took three wickets to continue his superb bowling performance.

Meanwhile Group A winners England will take on South Africa who are placed 2nd in Group B on January 26 th in the 1st Quarter Final. Pakistan, who also ended the group stage unbeaten, topping Group C will meet Group D runners up Australia in the 3rd Quarter Final. India, who finished Group B with 3 wins in 3 games, will face Bangladesh on January 28 in the 2nd Quarter Final.

The two semi finals will be played on February 1 st and 2 nd while final scheduled to be played on February 5th.
