The Sri Lanka–Cuba Friendship Association will continue to stand up against the attempts of the imperialists and colonialists to reverse the Cuban Revolution, said its President, MEP Leader and Education Minister Dinesh Gunawardena.

He said that they would stand up for the people of Cuba through heads of state, people’s organizations, and Members of Parliament and in the international forums. He said the Association had also opposed Western countries, including the United States, imposing sanctions on Cuba.

Education Minister Gunawardena was speaking at a special meeting of the Sri Lanka–Cuba Friendship Association held on January 21 at the National Library Auditorium, Colombo, on the commemoration of the 63rd Anniversary of the Cuban Revolution.

He added that the Cuban Revolution had given revolutionary courage not only to Cubans, but also to all nations around the world who value freedom and independence.

Cuba’s Ambassador to Sri Lanka Andrés Marcelo Gonzalez Garrido said that Cuba had been successful in developing several vaccines against the Covid virus. He said Cuba had an army of doctors and that it was Cuba’s policy that health should not be a trade commodity.

The Secretary of the Communist Party, Dr. G. Weerasinghe, presented the anniversary proposals of the Sri Lanka–Cuba Friendship Association. This included the proposal to recognize Cuba’s support for Sri Lanka and to condemn the Western sanctions on Cuba.
