Kandy hospital lands encroached into - Governor

Central Province Governor Lalith U.Gamage said that more than half of the land belonging to the Kandy National Hospital has been encroached into by unauthorized dwellers and this has become a major obstacle to expand the hospital.

He said that action should be taken in collaboration with all institutions including the Urban Development Authority, the Kandy Municipal Council and the Sri Lanka Police to resolve the problems in the hospital premises soon.

Gamage was speaking at a discussion held at the Governor’s Office auditorium in Kandy on to prevent heavy traffic at the Kandy National Hospital premises and surrounding roads.

He said that due to this situation, ambulances carrying patients are delayed and blocked due to the heavy traffic congestion near the hospital and immediate steps should be taken to prevent this.

The governor said that parking and illegal trade blocking the road leading to the hospital had been identified as a major cause of the situation.

He instructed the Provincial Road Development Authority to construct the access road to the hospital along with the pavement and stressed that the Kandy Municipal Council should provide assistance to remove the unauthorized constructions.
