Sabaragamuwa Provincial Thaipongal Festival to mark the Thaipongal Day was held yesterday at the Provincial Council premises in Ratnapura under the patronage of Sabaragamuwa Province Governor Tikiri Kobbekaduwa.
The Thaipongal celebration is organised annually by the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Ministry of Education and as a cultural festival aiming to transform cultural values to the younger generation.
A number of cultural performances by students from several schools including Keeragala Tamil, Ratnapura Tamil, Hidellana Tamil, Kahawatta Sri Krishna, Ratnapura Kumara, Ratnapura Almakia and Navalar Tamil Colleges were at the Thaipongal festival were held to mark the festival. General Secretary Sunil Jayalath, Secretary to the Governor Prabath Udakara, Provincial Secretary for Education HD Sisira, Provincial Director of Education Sepala Kuruppuarachchi were present.
