Railway commuters angered by the sudden strike launched by station masters, behaved in an unruly manner at the Kandy Railway Station yesterday morning, pelting stones which damaged several windows.

Trains to Badulla and other areas were cancelled due to the strike by station masters.

Some 500 commuters were at the railway station at the time and a group of Kandy Police officers intervened to control the crowd.

Police had taken steps to direct the group to their destinations by SLTB and private buses.

A large number of foreigners visiting the upcountry were also inconvenienced. They said that although Sri Lanka is a beautiful country, they regret the inconvenience caused to the people in this manner.
