Two suspects arrested in cannabis raid

Koslanda Police arrested two suspects yesterday while raiding two cannabis cultivations in the Aluthwela Navuara Reserve.

The cannabis had been grown under the guise of growing Kurakkan, police said.

Police had destroyed 4,900 cannabis plants worth around Rs. 5 million.

The suspects (30 and 32) are residents of Adiyawala in Embilipitiya, Police said.

A special police team had walked about eight miles in the Aluthwela Navuara Reserve, to raid the illegal cultivations.

The suspects were arrested after setting fire to 1,200 cannabis plants in one cannabis plantation and 3,700 cannabis plants in the other cannabis plantation, police said.
