46 year old, U.H.Sugath Uyanhewa, an outstanding Swimming Coach of Mahamaya Girls School,Kandy started his primary education at Polhena Maha Vidyalaya and secondary education at St.Thomas’ College,Matara. Sugath started swimming at the age of five years in the year 1980 under the coaching of Siripala Kodikara at the Polhena Water Sports Club, and after that he was coached by K.W.Yasaratne Veteran swimming coach for a number of years free of charge.

Sugath is a veteran Sea Swimmer and he started Sea Swimming at the age of Ten years in 1985 participating in Sea swimming races such as two miles, Six miles and two Kilometres for a Number of years and secured 1st 2nd and 3rd places during his Swimming career. Sugath has participated at International Swimming Meets such as Asia Pacific Swimming meet in 1992 held in Singapore and World Games held in New Zealand in 1998. After some time he became a qualified Swimming coach and started his career as an Assistant Swimming coach at Trinity College Swimming pool when his elder brother was the Swimming Head Coach of the School.

Later on Sugath joined Mahamaya Girls School,Kandy as the Head coach of Swimming and showed his class by guiding the School Girls Swimming team to become All Island Swimming Champions for the last Twenty consecutive years from the year 2000 to 2020. Apart from that he guided them to become Penththlon Swimming Champions for sixteen years, Junior National Swimming champions for Eight times in Short Pool, Junior National Champions Seven times,National Long Pool Champions Eight times, and he guided the Girls of Mahamaya Swimming team to involve in Two mile sea swimming Championships three times and National Champions Fifteen times and for these achievements Sugath was felicitated by the School authorities for his dedicated services towards the Mahamaya Girls School Swimming team.

Sugath is thankful to the past Principals of Mahamaya W.Wijesinghe, Indra Withanachchi and former teacher-in-charge of swimming, Chintha Ruwanpathirana and the parents of the Swimmers and also his elder brother,U.H.Premlath for the guidance and support given to him to improve his Swimming Coaching.
