Taprobane Seafoods has doubled its export turnover of shrimp and crabs from USD15 million last year to USD 30 million with a target of USD 40 million by end of the finance year in March 2022, said Dilan Fernando, Director Taprobane Seafoods Pvt Ltd at the launch of Taprobane Agro Services, the one -stop-shop for all aquaculture products and services in Chilaw on Sunday.

He said from an export point of view in the next few years shrimps will take over and they target in three years a turnover of USD 100 million and with the doubling of their production and exports they will require new facilities and have already received a hatchery and farm in Hambantota and Batticaloa.

The director said they already have factories in Mannar and Jaffna and if land is provided in Batticaloa they will put up a factory there with an investment of USD 5 million in a processing plant and employ about 1,000 employees. He said their main markets were the US for crabs and for shrimps they mainly focused on Europe.

Fernando said they see a huge future for the industry which can grow up to USD 700-800 million only in shrimps and they want to capitalise on this and at least in the next three years be a USD100 million turnover and go on to be a USD 200 million turnover company after that.
