Sabuddhi Sports Literary Awards Ceremony today

The Sabuddhi ‘Sports Literary Awards-2021’ organised by the Sabuddhi Literary Circle (SLC) for the second time will be held today (Dec 3) commencing at 3 pm at the Sports Ministry Duncan White Auditorium. This time the organisers are expected to name the gold award for Sport Literature to commemorate the late Bandula Warnapura and they have named Bandula Warnapura memorial award for this highest award. The first Test captain Bandula Warnapura has passed away recently. He contributed his service as a good cricket administrator while his service to Sports Literature was also highly recognised.

Four new categories will feature in this year’s awards ceremony. They are in Sports Literature Photographer of the Year, Sports Literature Publisher of the Year, Sports Science Book of the Year, and Sports Literature Research Book of the Year. This year’s award will consider publications on sports research studies at Sri Lankan universities. It is also the first sports literature award ever presented in Sri Lanka for university professionals. This is the only awards ceremony to evaluate the works of sports journalists as well as literary writers in Sri Lanka. Namal Rajapaksa, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports will be the chief guest at the ceremony. The Ministry of Sports will co-sponsor the awards ceremony in collaboration with the title sponsor Sri Lanka Telecom-Mobitel. The sports literature awards cover services rendered to Electronic, Print, and Social Media.

Accordingly, from October 1, 2020, to September 30, 2021 assessments are made and the winners will be selected by a panel of judges chaired by Dr. Lal Ekanayake, Director General of the Sports Medicine Unit of the Ministry of Sports while Media Deputy Director Dr. Harsha Abeykoon and Sri Lanka Athletics Official Recorder Saman Kumara Gunawardena are also in the jury.
