Police intensify probes on female harassment

Over 5,689 Police Officers have been deployed islandwide to control and investigate cases of harassment against women.

About 3,771 cases of harassment against women have been reported to the Police last year and about 3,681 cases have been reported during the past 10 months.

A majority of these cases have been reported from the Western Province and the Kurunegala District. The public could complain such incidents now round the clock via 1938.

The Police Investigation Unit of Woman Sexual Harassment is functioning now under the guidance of DIG (Woman) Renuka Jayasundara and SSP Darshika Kumari, Kurunegala Senior SSP R. Jayaweera said.
