Bribery case: Teldeniya MC Registrar remanded till Dec 10

The Registrar of the Teldeniya District Magistrate’s Court, who was arrested for allegedly soliciting and receiving a bribe of Rs.10,000, was ordered to be remanded till December 10 by Colombo Chief Magistrate Buddhika C Ragala yesterday.

The Bribery Commission officials informed the Magistrate that the investigation officers of Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption have arrested the Courts Registrar of Teldeniya District Magistrate Court for soliciting and receiving a bribe of Rs.10,000 on November 17 in accordance with a complaint made to the Bribery Commission.

The registrar was thus arrested when she solicited and received a bribe of Rs.10,000 from the complainant to prohibit the property of the defendants as per the judgement of the Court and to auction the said property enabling him to get the required money.

The Attorney-at-Law appearing on behalf of the suspect pleaded that his client be released on bail.

Preliminary investigation into the incident has not yet been concluded, the Bribery Commission officer further stated.
