Easter attacks case: IGP noticed to appear in Court

The Colombo High Court Trial-at-Bar yesterday issued summons to IGP C.D. Wickramaratne to appear before the Court over the case filed against former IGP Pujith Jayasundara for failing to take proper action in connection with the series of Easter Sunday terror attacks that took place on April 21 in 2019.

Following the conclusion of the testimony of State Intelligence Service Chief SDIG Nilantha Jayawardena, Senior Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris who appeared on behalf of the Attorney General requested from the Court to issue summons to the prosecution witness, present IGP C.D Wickremaratne to appear before the court on next hearing to testify.

The case will be taken up again for further trial on November 29.Meanwhile, the case filed against former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando for his failure to prevent the Easter Sunday attacks was fixed for further trial on December 13 by the Colombo High Court Trial-at-Bar.Both cases were taken up before the Colombo High Court Trial-at-Bar Bench comprising Colombo High Court Judges Namal Balalle, Adithya Patabendige and Mohamed Irshadeen yesterday.SDSG Dileepa Pieris and Deputy Solicitor General Sudharshana de Silva appeared on behalf of the Attorney General.
