Justice Minister inspects renovated buildings of the Colombo District Court

Justice Minister Ali Sabri PC joined in the inspection of the renovated buildings and other sections of the Colombo District court premises yesterday.

Following a request made by the Colombo Bar Association to renovate the buildings of the Colombo District Court premises, which were constructed during the colonial period, and was in a dilapidated condition for quite some time, the buildings as well as other sections of the court premises were renovated. Renovation work of this Court Complex commenced on March 2, 2021 at a cost of Rs. 237,071,769.

At present the permanent District Court Complex has been shifted to a temporary location and the court proceedings have been resumed. The work of the District Court can be resumed after the completion of the work on the renovated court complex and computerization of data is also being successfully carried out in this court complex to conduct proceedings online.

Secretary to the Ministry of Justice, Attorney-at-Law Priyantha Mayadunne, a group of members of the Bar Association and a group of officials from the Ministry of Justice were also present.
