President, PM to unveil Sandahiru Seya for devotees

The Sandahiru Seya will be vested to the nation by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa at 4.30 pm today while vesting the sacred site for devotees.

The Sandahiru Seya is the second tallest Chaitya in the country, after the Ruwanweli Seya. The Sacred Pinnacle and the Crest Gem will be unveiled during this ceremony. The construction of the Sandahiru Seya was initiated during the Presidency of the current Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, when the current President Gotabaya Rajapaksa was the Defence Secretary, in honour of the brave soldiers who had laid down their lives and sacrificed their lives and limbs to liberate the country from the clutches of the LTTE.

The ambitious project was initiated in 2010 and completed this month. The mega construction undertaken by the Tri-Forces is 283 feet in height with a circumference of 801 feet. The widows of war heroes and disabled war heroes will also participate in the event, which will be held adhering to health guidelines.
