Complete due development projects before year end – PM

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday (15) instructed the officials of the Ministry of Urban Development and Housing to complete the relevant development projects before the end of the year instead of sending the funds allocated for development projects back to the General Treasury.

The Prime Minister was addressing a progress review meeting for the third quarter of the State Ministry of Urban Development, Waste Disposal and Community Cleanliness at Temple Trees.

Retired Major General Udaya Nanayakkara, Chairman of the Urban Development Authority, said that there is a plan to build 60,000 new houses by the end of 2024.Accordingly, 40,000 houses will be constructed for low income earners and 20,000 houses for middle class and other groups, he said.

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa instructed officials not to confine these housing projects only to Colombo but also take them to rural areas as well.At the end of the progress review, the Prime Minister presented to the Heads of Institutions the financial plan and human resource management models to be implemented in each of the institutions of the Ministry.
