168 schools to be re-opened in Trincomalee District

Eastern Province Governor Anuradha Yahampath said that 168 schools will be re-opened in the Trincomalee district under the plan to restart schools with less than 200 students on October 21.

A meeting was held in this connection at the Trincomalee Fourth Block Sumedhangarapura Vidyalaya under the chairmanship of the Eastern Province Governor yesterday.

Classrooms and school premises were cleaned. The Governor further said that the classroom will be set up in accordance with health guidelines and steps will be taken to develop activities related to the psychological support of the students within two weeks of the commencement of the school.

"The responsibility of ensuring the safety of students who can enter the school premises rests with the principal and teachers as the educational activities of the students have been greatly affected by COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, it is the responsibility of parents including the alumni to help the school authorities to ensure the smooth running of the schools. Students should take constructive steps to continue their schooling with a sense of urgency and dedication," Governor Yahampath said. District Government Agent Saman Darsana Pandikorala said that educational activities should be carried out in a systematic manner which will be beneficial to the students. He further said that he was ready to provide all assistance for the smooth functioning of schools.

The event was attended by the Trincomalee City Council Chairperson, Trincomalee Pattinam and Environment Pradeshiya Sabha Chairperson, Eastern Provincial Ministry of Education, Eastern Provincial Director of Education, Trincomalee Zonal Education Director, Principals, teachers, parents and students.
