Senura beaten in U-19 final at World TT Meet

Sri Lanka's Senura Silva lost to India's Yashansh Malik in the Boys’ Under-19 semi-finals of the World Youth Table Tennis Championships played in Muscat, Oman yesterday.

In the semi-finals Senura lost the first set 9-11 but fought back strongly to win the second set 15-13.

However, Malik was able to win the last two sets 11-4, 11-9 and entered the final with a 3-1 lead.

Earlier, Sri Lanka’s Vinuka Gunawardena also lost to India’s Varun Shankar in the Boys’ Under-19 quarter-finals. The eight-member Sri Lankan Table Tennis Team is scheduled to return to the country tomorrow.

Results

Boys’ Under-19 (quarter-finals): Senura Silva beat Kalied Alsharief (UAE) 3-1, Vinuka Gunawardena lost to Varun Shankar (India) 0-3.
Boys’ Under-19 (semi-finals): Senura Silva lost to Yashansh Malik (India) 1-3,
Boys’ Under-19 (final): Jain Payas (India) beat Yashansh Malik (India) 3-0. (D.R)
