The issuance of stamps in three categories to mark the World Postal Day was held under the patronage of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees on Friday.

A World Postal Day commemorative stamp, regular Rs.1,000 stamp and a set of themed stamps featuring endemic bird species of Sri Lanka were released in this regard.

Mass Media Minister Dullas Alahapperuma presented the first day covers and stamps to Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Pulasthi Ediriweera has created the World Postal Day Commemorative Stamp 2021, issued on the occasion of World Postal Day today, reflecting that the Sri Lanka Postal Service is still active internationally despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Rs.1,000 regular batch stamp is a hand drawn graphic depicting the Yapahuwa lion and designed by Isuru Chathuranga.

Among the stamps issued today are six themed stamps depicting endemic birds that had not been reflected in Sri Lankan stamps thus far and six first day covers.

The stamp set depicting the Sri Lanka grey hornbill, Small Barbet, Common Wood Shrike, Spot-Winged Thrush, Red-backed Woodpecker, and Sri Lanka swallow has been designed by Pulasthi Ediriweera.
