Ten death row prisoners stage protest

Ten death row prisoners and those serving life sentences at the Welikada Prison launched a protest on top of the prison roof yesterday.

The inmates have reportedly launched the protest demanding for their sentence to be reduced or pardoned, according to Prison sources.

Meanwhile, Commissioner General of the Prisons Department Thushara Upuldeniya visited the Anuradhapura prison complex yesterday to look into the alleged incident that took place last week involving former State Minister of Prisons and Prisoner Rehabilitation Lohan Ratwatte.

Upuldeniya was also expected to speak to the detainees involved in the incident, as well as witnesses of the incident.
