Egypt, Sri Lanka to strengthen defence ties

Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Sri Lanka and Maldives Hussein El Saharty paid a courtesy call on Defence Secretary Gen. Kamal Gunaratne (Retd) at the Defence Headquarters Complex, Sri Jayawardenepura, Kotte yesterday.

Following a warm reception, the Sri Lankan Defence Secretary held cordial discussion with the Egyptian Ambassador on matters of bilateral importance and mutual relevance.

Discusiions focused on enhancing of defence exchanges including military training between the two countries.

The Ambassador expressed his willingness to strengthen defence related ties between the two countries and in response, the Sri Lankan Defence Secretary assured the same.

Following the meeting, mementoes were also exchanged to mark the occasion.

The bilateral meeting was held in keeping with the healthcare procedures to contain the spread of COVID-19.

The Defence Ministry’s Military Liaison Officer Brig. Dinesh Nanayakkara and Egypt Embassy’s Counsellor/ Deputy Chief of Mission Karim Abulenein were also present at the discussion.
