All tourists in country are monitored - Minister

Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga denied allegations made by the PHI’s Union regarding Indian tourists arriving in the country as false. He said all tourists arriving in the country are monitored by health officials till their departure.

The Minister said this in response to allegations made by the PHI’s Union that Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority officials are escorting tourists arriving the country without following procedure.The PHI’s Union also alleged that there is no proper procedure to direct tourists for PCR testing and quarantine process at BIA as well.The Minister said all these allegations are baseless and he urged the PHI’s Union not to make false statements on tourism industry.The country was reopened to international tourists adhering to strict health guidelines and it was the Health authorities who allowed Indian tourists to enter Sri Lanka who were earlier banned from travelling to the country.

The minister also clarified that those Indian nationals who have received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine are only allowed to visit the country. They should also undergo two PCR tests prior to the arrival and after the arrival to ensure that they are not infected with COVID-19.

All tourists arriving in the country should stay in hotels following health guidelines issued by the Health Ministry and that hotels are supervised by the relevant MOHs in the area.
