Three thousand mango saplings have been distributed among the people of Rajaela in Kantale on September 9.
Trincomalee District Parliamentarian and Co-Chairman of the District Coordinating Committee Kapila Nuwan Athukorala initiated the distribution to develop the export crops in the country.
The mango cultivar (Tom and JC), which was distributed among the people on the day, is very expensive and it enjoys a good market both locally and abroad. This mango type provides harvests during three seasons annually even though traditional types of mango trees produce harvests only during two seasons.
Kantale Pradeshiya Sabha (PS) Member Tissa Kumara and Divisional Secretary, representatives of farmers’ organisations and many others were present.
