Sathosa Finance DGM arrested over theft

The Deputy General Manager (Finance) of Sathosa was arrested yesterday (16). He was arrested in connection with the theft of two containers with 54,000 kilograms of garlic belonging to Sathosa.

Previously, four officials of the Sathosa were also interdicted over the relevant incident. Two containers were taken into custody in Kerawalapitiya after they were pilfered from the port.

The said officer had purchased a total of 54,860 kilos of garlic contained in 2,800 bags stored in a frozen warehouse at the Port of Colombo at Rs. 105 per kilo and sold it to traders at Rs.135 per kilo causing Sathosa losses into millions of rupees. The Deputy General Manager (Finance) Susira Perera was arrested by the Special Crimes Investigation Unit of the Peliyagoda Police on Tuesday14 and produced before the Welisara Magistrate’s Court yesterday (16). Welisara Magistrate Heshantha de Mel yesterday, ordered the suspect be remanded till September 21 and the stock of garlic be handed over to the CWE and that Rs. 7,406,100 be handed over to the owner of the private company after an investigation.
