Twenty one year old Chamod Mahinsasa Yodasinghe, who is an old boy of St. Mary’s College, Kegalle having studied earlier at Dorawaka Siriniwasa MV, Kegalle is a fine National level young athlete who won 100 metre and 200 metre races and Long Jump at School level and provincial level athletic meets.

On the instructions of the veteran Athletic Coach Lalith Liyanage Chamod joined St. Marys’ College in the year 2014 to improve athletics as well as higher studies and at the start under Lalith Liyanage’s coaching he secured the first place at the All Island Schools Athletic Meet in 2016 in the 100 metre race with a new meet Record of 11.0 seconds. and he came second in 200 meter race with a time of 22.6 seconds and he came second in Long Jump too with a distance of 6.72 metres at the same meet in the Under 17 Age Category.

Chamod secured the first place in the 200 metre race with a time of 11.1 seconds. at the Sir John Tarbet Meet and came first in the 200 metres race with a time of 22.63 seconds at the Junior National Athletic Championship in the under 18 age group in 2017 and he was able to secure the second place in the 100 metres race with a time of 10.98 seconds at the Junior National Meet and in addition he came first at the National Youth Festival in the same year at the same events and he came third in the 100 metres race at the Junior National Championship in 2018.

He came fifth at the South Asian Junior Athletic Championship in the 100 metre race and in 2019 he came first at the Junior National Athletic championship in the under 20 category with a time of 10.90 seconds.

He came first in the Long Jump event with a distance of 7.38 metres. with a new Meet Record. At the John Tarbet Athletic Meet he came first in the 100 metres. event with a time of 10.80 seconds. and came first in Long Jump with a distance of 7.43 metres and was adjudged the ‘Best Athlete’, Best Long Jumper and Field event Champion in the Under 20 age Category at the Sir John Tarbet meet in the same year.

From 2018 onwards he improved his Athletic ability under the coaching of Sanjeewa Weerakkody, Asst. Director, Dept. of Education, Kandy. In 2019 he came first in the 100 metres race with a timing of 10.90 seconds and Long Jump with a distance of 7.38 metres.

He became the Best Athlete of the Meet for his outstanding achievements at the Sports Festival held in 2019 and he came second in the 100 metres. race with a time of 10.90 seconds Chamod was selected to the National Athletic Pool in the same year and he joined the Sri Lanka Army to the Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Unit and he is continuing Athletics and his intention is to bring fame to his country.
