Funds granted for over 2,400 COVID deceased

State Minister of Local Government and Provincial Councils Roshan Ranasinghe told the Daily News today his Ministry has granted funds to the local bodies countrywide for the cremation of deceased COVID-19 patients.

Accordingly, funds for cremating about 2,417 COVID deceased have been granted to 69 local bodies by now. For each cremation, a sum of Rs.5,000 has been paid amounting to Rs. 12,085,000.

These payments were made up to August 31 this year.
About 391 such bodies were cremated in both the Kurunegala and Puttalam Districts of the North Western Province during this period.
