Pfizer vaccine for children above 12 soon - State Minister

A consignment of four million Pfizer jabs is scheduled to be received in Sri Lanka by October, Production, Supply and Regulation of Pharmaceuticals State Minister Prof. Channa Jayasumana said.

“We are awaiting recommendations of the experts’ committee to begin the vaccination programme for all schoolchildren above 12 years. We have already received the recommendation to vaccinate children with various complications.

Measures have already been taken to administer the Pfizer vaccine for children with various complications from next week,” the State Minister said.

As per the statistics of the Epidemiology Unit of the Health Ministry, Sri Lanka has administered a total 24,022,849 doses of COVID vaccines by yesterday (12).

Accordingly, a total of 13,458,621 people have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and 10,544,228 people have received both doses.

The first dose of the AstraZeneca Covishield vaccine has been given to 1,437,275 individuals and the second dose of the same vaccine has been given to 891,734 persons. The first dose of the Sinopharm vaccine has been given to 10,653,261 people and the second dose has been administered to 8,614,123 individuals.

A total of 159,089 individuals have received the first dose of the Russia-made Sputnik V vaccine and the second dose has been administered to 43,450 persons.

The first dose of the Pfizer vaccine has been given to 436,041 persons the second dose has been given to 240,231 individuals and 772,955 individuals have received the first dose of the Moderna vaccine and the second dose has been given to a total of 754,690.
